The ACT I Scrapbook

For twenty-seven seasons, ACT I has been bringing live theatre, music, and dance to Benton County. By the end of the 2005 - 2006 Season, ACT I had given its patrons over 400 performances of ninety-nine productions. On these pages you'll find pictures and information about each of these. You can also view pages featuring our sets, costumes, makeup, rehearsals, and choreography, as well as photos and information about all the different performance spaces we have used.

ACT I of Benton County was founded in 1980 with assistance from the Old Creamery Theatre in Garrison and opened in April of that year with You Can’t Take it with You. The first productions were all directed by members of the Old Creamery Theatre Company and performed at the Garrison Facility. During the course of twenty-six years ACT I has expanded its seasons from two shows to six, added a children's theatre series, and has performed at twelve different locations throughout Benton County. Although participating members come primarily from Vinton, all the communities in Benton County have been represented on our stage and we have also attracted participants at various times from such locations as Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and the Waterloo / Cedar Falls areas; even from as far away as New York and Australia!
